The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1925

OBITUARY - MRS. J. R. KNOX.

Flora Vianna BROWNLEE, daughter of William and Margaret BROWNLEE, was born in Washington, Pa., April 3, 1848, and passed away at her home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, January 31, 1925, aged 76 years, nine months and twenty-eight days.

On May 9, 1872, she was united in marriage to James R. KNOX, of Claysville, Pa., at which place they resided for a number of years. In February, 1875, they moved west, locating in Mount Ayr, where they have continued to make their home.

About a year ago, being in poor health, she submitted to an operation on May 16 at the Methodist hospital at Des Moines, Iowa, from which she never fully recovered, lingering until the time of her death.

In girlhood she embraced the Christian religion and remained firm and loyal to the last.

She was respected and loved by her neighbors who knew her best for her gentleness, meekness and kindness.

She was a devoted wife and a loving mother.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Mary HARVEY of Clearfield, Iowa, and Mrs. Ada McFARLAND of Omaha, Neb., two grandchildren, Gerald and Vera HARVEY. On daughter, Eva Mattie, died in infancy.

Funeral services were held from the United Presbyterian church Monday afternoon, conducted at two o'clock by the pastor, Rev. W. L. THORNBURG. Interment was made in Rosehill (sic) cemetery.

Card of Thanks.

We desire to extend our sincere and heartfelt thanks to the many friends and neighbors who extended to us so many favors which helped to lighten the burden of sorrows during the sickness and death of our beloved wife and mother. We also take this means of expressing our thanks for the lovely floral offerings.
