The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1923

OBITUARY - MRS. LEWIS C. KNIGHT.

Nancy J. SMITH was born on the 20th day of March, 1855, near Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa, and died on the 8th day of September, 1923, age sixty-eight years, five months and twenty days, at the Sisters Hospital in St. Joseph, Mo.

She was united in marriage in 1872 to Mr. Lewis C. KNIGHT, of Fairfield, Iowa. In 1877 she moved to Ringgold county where she lived on a farm until a few years ago when she retired from the farm life and came to Mount Ayr, where she resided until the time of her death. To this union were born fourteen children - eight boys and six girls - three of which died in infancy.

For several months she has been in poor health and all that tender and loving hands could do not save her from that cruel enemy, death.

She was united with the Christian church at Delphos in 1888. There she remained a faithful member until she came to Mount Ayr and then she brought her membership to the Christian church of this place. She was always a loving and loyal mother to her children and a faithful wife. She was loved and honored by all that knew here and her departure will be a great loss to all her friends.

She leaves to mourn her death the following children: George L., Roll E., Vern W., Guy E., and Reuben H., of near Mount Ayr; Raymond E., of Emerson, Iowa; Mrs. J. C. EVANS, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. W. L. HOSFORD, of St. Joseph, Mo.; Mrs. N. Z. JAGGER, of Redding, Iowa; Mrs. T. O. YOUNG, of Kellerton, Iowa; and Mrs. R. A. JOHNSTON, of Gilmore City, Iowa. She also leaves twenty-four grand children and two great grand children.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Church of Christ, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Edgar PRICE, and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
