OBITUARY- EVERETT LEE KINDER
Everett Lee KINDER son of Emery Leonard "E. L." and Bessie Athena (NEWMAN) KINDER on December 19, 1929 at Mount Ayr, Iowa
and departed this life unexpectedly at his home On May 2010.
Everett spent his childhood in Mount Ayr attending the Mount Ayr Public School until he moved to Porterville, California
for a short time during World War II. Upon his returned to Mount Ayr he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving for 20 years.
His time in the service was on four aircraft carriers, the USS Lexington, USS Hornet, USS Bon Hom Richard and the
While stationed in Memphis, TN he met and was united in marriage to Mary S. HURT. Everett retired from the U.S. Navy in
1966 as a Chief Petty Officer. They made their home in Memphis TN where Mary’s mother lived. While here Everett worked at
the HaVal Air station as fuel officer. After his retirement at the Naval Air Station they moved to Pickwick Dam, TN on the
Tennessee River. Everett and Mary loved to boat and spent all the time they could on the river. Most of their friends
there had houseboats and they would travel on the river for
houseboats and they would travel on the river for several days at a time. Also while here Everett worked at the Pickwick
Landing State Park as manager of the marina before going to the Harding County Sherriff’s Office as deputy for almost 8
years. Retiring again they started spending their winters in Texas with his wife and sister and brother-in-law Athena
Mary preceded him in death in April of 2002.
Everett visited Mount Ayr as often as possible when his mother and mister were still living. He would always try to make
it up at least once during pheasant season.
He was baptized in the Mount Ayr Christian Church at an early age and later joined the Methodist Church while living in
Tennessee. He was very proud of receiving his 50-year certificate from Faith Lodge #179 of the Masonic Lodge; he was a
member of the Fleet Reserve Assoc. for over 50 years and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police for over 30 years.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Harry L. KINDER and sisters, Kathleen DAVIS and Athena
Surviving Everett are his sister Bonnie DUNCAN of Missouri and many nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Graveside services held Tuesday, June 1 at 1:30 p.m., Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, with Rev. Skip RUSHING officiating. Arrangements handled by
Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr.
