OBITUARY - DORTHA L. KESTERSON

DORTHA L. KESTERSON was born May 1, 1915, to Oliver C. and Grace L. CHAMBERS on a farm west of Bartlett, IA. She grew up there along there with her parents and 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Dortha attended Bartlett School graduating from there in 1932. She attended Peru State College and in 1933 she met Edwin G. KESTERSON. They were united in marriage on January 23, 1934. Four children were born to this union; Lyle Edwin, Karen Kay, Lynn, and Michael Lee.

Ed and Dortha farmed south of Tabor until 1945 when they moved to a farm south of Mt. Ayr, IA. They worked side by side on this farm for 20 years. In 1965 they moved to a farm in the Gravity, IA area and in 1972, they purchased an acreage in Gravity where they remained until Ed passed away in 1989. Dortha sold the acreage within a few months and moved to Valley View Villa in January, 1990.

Dortha was a hard working woman, an excellent cook, and loved to sew and garden. She spent many hours making beautiful quilts and sharing that knowledge with others. She loved to play cards, dance, and work her crossword puzzles. Dortha volunteered at the Tabor Manor and attended the Nazarene Church in Tabor. She was a very intelligent woman, had a sharp mind, and always took time for family and friends.

Dortha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; son, Lyle; granddaughter, Debra WARNO; great-grandchildren, Lindsey KNICKERBOCKER and Nathan EISENZIMMER; 4 sisters, Eunice PECK, Thelma YOST, Edna GARREAN, and Nellie WREDT; and 2 brothers, Clayton CHAMBERS and Harold CHAMBERS. She is survived by daughter, Karen K. VARY of Tabor; 2 sons, Lynn (Janet) KESTERSON of Winterset, IA and Mic (Karen) KESTERSON of Tabor, IA; brother, Rollin CHAMBERS of Los Gatos, CA; 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren; amd numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends.

Dortha became ill a week before she entered into eternal rest on August 19, 2008. Visitation was held at Crawford-Marshall Funeral Home on Aug. 22 and funeral at 10:00 AM at the Nazarene Church of Tabor on Aug. 23 with interment at the Tabor Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Tabor Manor or Tabor Fire Rescue.
