OBITUARY - DREXEL CLARK KEITH

American Flag.jpg Funeral services for Drexel Clark KEITH were held Thursday, September 5, 1991, at the United Methodist Church in Bedford, with Rev. Carl CUMMINGS and Rev. Steve PETER. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford, Iowa.

Drexel Clark KEITH, son of Gladys (LEVI) KEITH and Theron Clark KEITH, was born February 19, 1918, near Blockton, Iowa, in Ringgold County and departed this life September 2, 1991, at the Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa, at the age of 73 years, six months and 14 days.

At the age of five years he moved with his mother, grandfather and grandmother to Gravity, Iowa, where he grew to maturity. He attended the Gravity Public School and was graduated with the class of 1936.

He was one of the first draftees in Taylor County to enter the service in 1941. He was discharged from service and returned home in December of 1945, after serving with the "Red Bull Division" in Italy during World War II.

On Jun 15, 1946, Drexel was united in marriage to Vivian HUNTER in the Presbyterian Parsonage in Hiawatha, Kan. Two children were born to them to share their love, Randall Rex and Kay Lynn.

Drexel and Vivian made their home in Gravity, Iowa, where he was employed by Beemer Produce until 1954 when they moved to their present home near Bedford where they have continued to reside. He engaged in farming and operated a produce business in Bedford for several years.

Failing health caused him to retire earlier than he had planned. He was forced to endure five years of severe handicaps, but never once complained as to why he had been given such burdens.

Drexel was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the active participation of his grandchildren in their school sports activities.

His whole life was devoted to his family who survive him; his wife, Vivian of the home; his son, Randy and his wife Linda of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; his daughter, Kay Lynn and her husband Greg SHEFFIELD of Bedford, Iowa, and five grandchildren, Brian, Kimberly and Casey SHEFFIELD, Erin and Alexandra KEITH; other relatives and friends.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
