The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1928

OBITUARY - JOHN P. JORDAN.

John Presley JORDAN was born in Noble county, Ohio, May 26, 1858 and was called to his Heavenly home March 16, 1928. He was the third son of George W. [1829-1903] and Serene (DELANCEY) JORDAN. He had six brothers and one sister, all whom preceded him in death.

When he was seven years of age, in 1865, he came with his parents to Guthrie county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood and lived until his marriage to Miss Loretta M. RUSH of Ringgold county January 24, 1889. To this union were born two daughters, Vera Serene who died at the tender age of three and one-half years, and Mida Lois. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and daughter Mida and son-in- law, Gerald DORSEY, three grandsons and two granddaughters - John Grant, Herald, Glen, Ethel, and Mary Loretta, and a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. JORDAN moved to Middle Fork township, Ringgold county, in 1889, and here he made his home until called to his reward. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and loyal citizen; always cheerful and happy, king and generous, he commanded the love and respect of all who knew him.

He was converted at Fry chapel in the PRUETT Brothers meeting about 24 years ago and joined the Methodist church at Eureka, where he held membership until called to his Heavenly home.

The funeral was held at Middle Fork chapel at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, and the body was laid in its last resting place in Middle Fork cemetery.

Card of Thanks.

We take this opportunity of expressing our thanks to the friends and neighbors for the kind help and sympathy during the sickness and death of our husband and father. -- Mrs. J. P. JORDAN, Mr. and Mrs. G. DORSEY and family.

NOTE: Loretta (RUSH), wife of John Presly JORDAN, was born in February of 1861 in Illinois, and died in 1941, Ringgold County, Iowa. She was interred at Middle Fork Cemetery. Vera Serena, daughter of Loretta (RUSH) and John Presly JORDAN, was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa, on February 19, 1894, and died on August 15, 1897 with interment at Middle Fork Cemetery.
