The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1922

OBITUARY - T. J. JONES.

Jones gravestone.jpg Thomas Jefferson JONES was born in Adams county, Ohio, January 23, 1856, and departed this life September 29, 1922, aged sixty-six years, eight months and six days.

He was the eldest of a family of ten children born to William and Amanda JONES. One sister, Mrs. Minnie STEWARD, of Big Springs, Nebraska, survives him.

At the age of fourteen he moved with his parents to Ringgold county, where he grew to manhood and has since resided until his death.

On March 27, 1880, he and Miss Rebecca HALL were united in marriage. She passed on in February 1893. Their married life extended over but a brief period of time. Six children were born to them, four daughters and two sons, ond daughter Mary dying in infancy. Those who grew to manhood and womanhood are: Walter E., Milton, Mrs. Maud HOGG, Mrs. Grace SPICER, of Benton, and Mrs. Muriel HESTER of Clearfield, Iowa.

On September 15, 1897, he was again united in marriage to Mrs. Hattie EVANS. To this union two children were born - Mrs. [Eva] Florence GLEASON, of Mount Ayr, Iowa, and Elma who died three years ago. He was also a father to his two step-daughters - Mrs. Clara McFARLAND and Mrs. Mae DILLENBURG, of Benton.

He has spent most of his life on a farm near Benton, Iowa, until two years ago when he moved to Benton on account of his health. He has been afflicted with heart disease for some time and failed rapidly the past two months. During this time all was done that loving hands could do.

He was a good citizen and neighbor and always ready and willing to help those in need. He was a kind and loving husband and a good father.

He leaves for a little while a loving wife, two sons, four daughters, two step-daughters, one sister and thirteen grandchildren, also a host of other relatives and friends.

A loving one from us is gone,
A voice we love is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ at Benton on Sunday, October 1, conducted by Elder Dennis DILLE. Interment was made at Marshalltown cemetery at Benton.

Card of Thanks.

Mrs. T. J. JONES and family wish to express their thanks to their friends and neighbors for their kindness during the illness and death of their loved one.
