OBITUARY

Owen Zell JONES, son of Albert and Carrie (STEVENS) JONES, was born April 22, 1896 on a farm in Ringgold County, Iowa, and passed away Dec. 1, 1959, in the Ringgold County Hospital at the age of 63 years, seven months and eight days.

On March 6, 1924, he was united in marriage with Bessie TAYLOR and to this union were born three children - a daughter, Alice Mae JOHNSTON, and two sons. James Albert, of Kellerton and Robert Dean at home.

Mr. JONES spent his entire life in Ringgold County except for 18 months when he served in the armed forces during World War 1. He was engaged in farming for 20 years near Diagonal and 14 years near Ellston. Because of ill health he retired this year and moved to Mount Ayr.

Mr. JONES was a member of the Presbyterian church of Diagonal and transferred to the Ellston Methodist Church when he moved to that community. He was an active member in both churches and worked enthusiastically for the new church in Ellston. He was also a member of the American Legion.

He was a kind, loving husband and father. His grandchildren were a source of joy to him and he was always thoughtful of others, a wonderful friend and neighbor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ralph.

Left to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Bessie; the daughter, Alice Mae JOHNSTON, of Bedford; two sons, James Albert and Robert Dean; a son-in-law, William E. "Bill" JOHNSTON, of Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Edna JONES of Kellerton; three grand-children Steven, Barry and Kathy JONES; three sisters, Lois LEMLEY of Wellington, Colo., Alma PINE, of Lincoln, Nebr., and Annabelle ETHINGTON of Kellerton; two brothers, Homer of Mondamin, and Wade of Riverside, Calif., and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the Ellston Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Willis GRANT, Interment was in the Diagonal Cemetery.
