OBITUARY - KATHRYN MARIE "KATE" (COLE) JONES

Kathryn Marie JONES, daughter of Doc and Candace Rebecca (ADAMS) COLE, was born April 13, 1900, at Grand River, Iowa, in Decatur county, and died April 12, 1977, at the Decatur county hospital, Leon, Iowa at the age of 76 year, 11 months and 30 days.

She lived in Decatur, Clarke and Ringgold counties until moving to Beaconsfield in 1953, then to Leon in 1974.

Kate, as she was known, was married to Floyd Edward JONES in Leon, March 1, 1917. Four sons were born to this union: Edward Leroy, Raymond Harold, Francis Maurice and Ralph Wayne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; one son, Maurice, who was killed in World War II; her parents; two brothers, Jim COLE and Frank COLE; two sisters, Nellie BURCHETT and Addie ADAMS, and one foster sister, Susie Jane (DEAN) BOLES.

She is survived by three sons, Roy and wife Alma, Grand River; Raymond and wife, Dorine, Beaconsfield; Ralph and wife Barbara, Leon; nine grandchildren: Donita HAVARD and husband Donald, of Moravia; Ellen BATTY and husband Donald, of Arlington, Wis.; Maurice JONES and wife Marsha, of Ellston; Michelle JONES, Beaconsfield; Michael JONES, Davenport; Marla BROWN and husband, Bob, of Des Moines; Dennis JONES of Davenport; Gary JONES and wife, Janice, of Leon, and Darrell JONES of Leon; five great-grandchildren: David and Duane HAVARD, Marcia BATTY, Brian JONES and Elisa Joy JONES; two sisters, Bessie CROSS, Leon and Esther STARK, Osceola; many other relatives and friends.

Services were held Thursday, April 14, at Slade Funeral Home in Leon with Rev. Wilton M. GRANT officiating. Burial was in Oliver cemetery in Ringgold county.
