OBITUARY - GUELDA (THARP) STAHL WAX JONES

August 09, 1907 - April 17, 2003

Guelda JONES, 95 years, passed away on April 17, 2003 at her residence in the Colonial Manor in Anita.

The daughter of Isaac F. and Lois L. (CALLEN) THARP, Guelda was born August 9, 1907, in Delphos, Iowa which is in Ringgold County. When Guelda was about 16, she moved to Des Moines with her family. She graduated from the West High School in Des Moines in 1927. She worked as a telephone operator before her marriage to Lloyd STAHL and they lived in Grimes, Iowa until he passed away. She then returned to Des Moines and graduated from beauty school. Her second marriage was to Ray WAX and the two of them worked together in Grimes. She was a beauty operator and Ray was a barber. After Ray passed away, Guelda was employed with the Meredith Publishing Company in Des Moines for a number of years until retiring in September of 1972. Due to ill health she resided in a nursing home in Des Moines for a while before going to live with her brother Zeno for over a year before returning to Des Moines. Then she moved to the Colonial Manor in Anita and while living there her third husband (Kenneth JONES) passed away. Guelda was a member of the Nova Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Des Moines. She was a pianist and a talented singer.

Surviving are her three sisters, Mary ASHBY of Atlantic and a number of nieces and nephews. Her parents; her three husbands and four brothers Dale, Harold, Leo and Zeno THARP preceded her in death.

Services for Guelda will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at 10:00 A.M. at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with the Rev. Tompsie SMITH for the First United Methodist Church of Atlantic officiating. Interment will be in the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.
