OBITUARY

Mrs. A. M. JONES [Carrie Alice (STEVENS) JONES], 76, died Saturday afternoon at her home in Diagonal after a brief illness of two days. Mrs. JONES was found unconscious at her home Friday noon when relatives went to look for her. It is thought she suffered a stroke Wednesday night from which she never rallied. The last person to see her were the high school carolers, whom she had treated to candy after they sang there Wednesday evening. Mrs. JONES had lived alone since the death of her husband last winter.

Previous to Wednesday she had gone about her usual activities and Tuesday of last week was a guest at the observance of the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Frank SIMPSON.

Mrs. JONES was known to every resident of this community, having lived in Ringgold county since moving here when two years of age. She served her home and family with devotion; she was a charter member of the Presbyterian church, and a faithful attendant at services, a faithful worker in the Aid society.

OBITUARY

Carrie Alice STEVENS, daughter of Ralph E[dward]. and Nancy [Jane] (SIMPSON) STEVENS, was born July 28, 1873, at Norwood, Illinois, and passed away Dec. 24, 1949 at the age of 76 at her home in Diagonal, IA. On July 3, 1895 she was united in marriage to Albert M. JONES, and they lived to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in 1945. To this union were born seven children, Zell of Kellerton, Lois, Mrs. John LEMLEY, of Cheyenne, Wy., Homer of McPHERSON, Kan., Alma PINE of Lincoln, NE., Wade, of Anchorage. AL. and Annabelle, Mrs. Boyd ETHINGTON of Kellerton. A fourth son, Ralph Edward, died in infancy.

Carrie was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Wednesday afternoons joined other ladies at Pearl's (Pearl BAILEY KOKESH) to quilt. Winter months would find her behind the quilting frames in front of the bay window while watching the children on the school playground.
