OBITUARY - RONALD J. JOHNSTON

American Flag.jpg Ronald John JOHNSTON, 80, Prescott, was born to John Lewis and Elsie Bonita (CLAREY) JOHNSTON Aug. 23, 1916, at Beaman. He died Jan. 20, 1997, at Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston.

His family moved to Casper, Wyo., where he spent most of his childhood. When he was in ninth grade they returned to Iowa and lived at Clearfield for two years, then moved to Prescott where his father had bought a drug store.

He graduated from Prescott High School in 1934 then attended and graduated from the National Radio Schools in Los Angeles, Calif. After returning home he worked briefly as assistant postmaster at Prescott.

Mr. Johnston enlisted in the US Navy in WWII. After serving 4 1/2 years in Radio Technical Schools and the combat zones of North Africa, Sicily, Italy and France he was discharged as a radio technician first class and returned home to Prescott where he owned and operated a radio and television repair busienss for a number of years before retiring.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his brother Joe (wife Ilene) JOHNSTON of Prescott.

Services were held Jan. 22 at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Corning with the Rev. Jeanne GROOM officiating. Burial was in the Clearfield Cemetery at Clearfield with military rites by Metz Post No. 544 of Prescott American Legion.

Casket bearers were Al WEST, Mike GRAY, Don PERRY, Don SHIRES, Kenny FOSTER and Kenneth SHIRES.
