OBITUARY - IVAN JOHNSTON

Funeral services for Ivan JOHNSTON, 73, of Loveland, CO, were held Wednesday, December 21, 1988, at the First United Methodist in Loveland, CO, with interment in Resthaven Memory Gardens there.

JOHNSTON died Monday, Dec. 19, at his home after being in failing health for some time. He was born September 28, 1915, in Mount Ayr, Iowa, the son of Poe and Lulu DICKENS JOHNSTON.

He graduated from Tingley High School in 1935 and farmed and was deputy sheriff in Ringgold county for eight years.

He married Lucille GLENDENNING in Mount Ayr September 25, 1938. They had three sons and a daughter, all of whom survive.

The JOHNSTONS moved to Loveland in 1958 and did construction work and had JOHNSTON Trenching before retiring in 1980. Since that time they have lived summers in Loveland and wintered in the south.

He was a vetern, serving with the U.S. Army from 1944-46, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Loveland and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille, of Loveland; three sons: Lyle and his wife LaRene of Loveland; Arlo and his wife Barbara of Loveland; and Joe and his wife Stanlyn of Johnstown, CO; one daughter, Zoe Ann TENNANT and husband Steve of Loveland; a brother Guy JOHNSTON of Mount Ayr; a sister Delta NICHOLS of Gravity; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers -- Dee, Forest, Harold and Roy JOHNSTON.

Funeral services were led by Rev. Tony ASHWORTH and Rev. Kennard BISHOP with music by Beverly ASHWORTH, soloist; and Carl STANFIELD, Organist. Music included Just A Closer Walk With Thee and How Great Thou Art.

Pallbearers were Lyle JOHNSTON, Arlo JOHNSTON, Joe JOHNSTON, Steve TENNANT, Gene JOHNSTON and Art BERNHARDT.

Memorial contributions are to the Hospice of Larimer County, Loveland, CO.
