Ringgold Record, 1884
Miss Hattie JOHNSON (sic) was born in Jefferson county Ohio, in 1837. In 1855 she removed with her parents Michael and
Jane JOHNSTON, to near the village of Frederickstown, Knox county, the same state. At about this time she united with the M.E.
church and remained a consistent and devoted member of the same until the Master said, "It is enough, come up highter." In 1877
she removed with her brother W. H. JOHNSTON to Blackmore, Ringgold county, Iowa, with her now widowed mother and her
brother Andrew had preceeded her. Quiet and unobtrusive, she was yet prompt in attendance and efficient in work at the
Sabbath school, the prayer meeting and the more public services of the sanctuary, adoring the doctrine of God her Saviour in all
things. As she had lived, so she died; approaching the dark valley and the shadow she declared that she feard not to die. Confident
and tranquil she sank to rest, March 10th 1884, leaving as a legacy to a large circle of kindred and friends, a name better
than great riches, and a memory most precious.
NOTE: Harriet "Hattie" JOHNSTON was interred at Johnston Cemetery near Kellerton, Ringgold County, Iowa.
