OBITUARY - FLORA ELLIS LANDRETH JOHNSTON.
Flora Ellis LANDRETH JOHNSTON, daughter of James and Lucy LANDRETH, was born January 17, 1866, at Millersburg, Illinois, and
passed from this life December 21, 1927, at her home in Ellston, Iowa, aged 61 years, 11 months and four days.
Mrs. JOHNSTON's girlhood
days were spent in Illinois. She was 17 years of age when she moved to Iowa and made her home with her home with her sister, Mrs. W. S. JOHNSTON,
in Liberty township, Ringgold county, Iowa. On January 26, 1890, she was united in marriage to Bruner JOHNSTON, of Ellston, Iowa. To this union one
child was born, Mrs. Vera GARRETT, of Denison, Iowa. They made their home on a farm northwest of Ellston, Iowa, and continued to live there until the
death of her husband, March 7, 1924, after which she moved to Ellston where she continued to live until her death. She united with the church in
Illinois at an early date and became a member of the Ellston M. E. church in 1902 and remained a faithful and loyal member until her death. She
was also a member of the Rebekah lodge of Ellston, Iowa, and served it faithfully as long as her health would permit. Mrs. JOHNSTON has not
enjoyed good health for the last six years, during which time she has been troubled with heart affection and the end came suddenly about noon
Wednesday, December 21, 1927.
Those left to mourn her departure are four sisters, Mrs. W. S. JOHNSTON, of Diagonal, Iowa; Mrs.
Robert McCLASKEY, of Centerville, Iowa; Mrs. Bernard DEBOLT, Roxburry, Kan., and Mrs. Emma HOUSE, of Springfield, S. D.; one daughter, Mrs. Vera GARRET,
of Denison, Iowa; four grandchildren, Dorothy, Geneva, Bruner and Marl, beside many relatives and friends.
Another life has departed from among us to
the realms of eternity. Mrs. JOHNSTON was a lovable character and all who knew her will mourn her departure.
Funeral services were held in the
Ellston M. E. Church, conducted by Rev. Harold H. HUNT, Friday afternoon, December 23, 1927. Interment was made in the Ellston cemetery.
