The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1931

OBITUARY - C. W. JOHNSTON.

Charley Johnston.jpg Charley Wesley JOHNSTON, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. JOHNSTON, was born near Ellston, Iowa, May 20, 1874,and departed from this life March 31, 1931, at his home north of Ellston, aged 56 years, 10 months and eleven days.

His life time, excepting two winters, was spent at his home and on his own farm north of Ellston. In 1900 he united with the Cronwall Methodist Episcopal church and on January 29, 1902, in that same church he was united in marriage to Mabel Anna GARLAND. God blessed their home with four children - one daughter, Wanda JOHNSTON, at home; three sons, Raymond Wesley, married and living near home, Rolland David and Harold Garland, both at home.

Charley was an overly ambitious fellow and that ambition only hastened the ill health which descended upon him in the spring of 1926 to overtake him at so early an age.

When health permitted he was an active member of the Odd Fellows lodge.

His father, mother and one brother, Joshua Bruner, preceded him in death.

Beside his wife, four children and daughter-in-law he leaves to mourn his death three sisters, Mrs. Ella M. GODELL of Colony, Kan., Mrs. Ada M. RUSH of Gridley, Calif., and Mrs. Edith C. SIZEMORE of Burns, Oregon; four brothers, C. D. JOHNSTON of Tingley, E. J. JOHNSTON and P. F. JOHNSTON of Ellston and S. T. JOHNSTON of Tingley; a host of nieces and nephews and many other relatives and a lot of sincere friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Ellston Thursday at 2:30, conducted by Rev. L. G. WOLFE and interment was in the Ellston cemetery.

Card of Thanks.

We are profoundly grateful to our neighbors and friends for the many acts of kindness and sympathy generously bestowed during the illness and at the death of our husband and father.
--Mrs. Mabel JOHNSTON
Wanda, Raymond, Helen, Rolland and Harold.

NOTE: Mabel Anna (GARLAND), wife of Charley Wesley JOHNSTON, was born in 1884, and died in 1948 with interment at Ellston Cemetery.
