OBITUARY - CARRIE EDITH (ALLEN) JOHNSTON

Carrie Edith JOHNSTON, daughter of George and Ellie SMITH ALLEN, was born March 29, 1909, in Hatfield, Missouri, and passed away at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, on January 9, 1990, at the age of 80 years, nine months and 10 days.

On April 17, 1927, Carrie was united in marriage to Cecil JOHNSTON. To this union three children were born: Bob, Nina and Mary Louise.

Carried worked at several jobs in her lifetime and she knew and appreciated how to work hard. In their 62 years of marriage, Carrie and Cecil were always together, whether on the farm or in town and they always had kind words for each other. On any given Saturday, they could be found at the Shamrock Cafe in Mount Ayr having their sandwiches together. In 1984 Carrie entered the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

Survivors include her loving husband, Cecil of Mount Ayr; one son, Bob and his wife Betsy of Kellerton, Iowa; one daughter, Nina and her husband Paul SANDERS of Afton, Iowa; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Troy ALLEN of Redding, Milo ALLEN of Diagonal and Cecil ALLEN of Tingley.

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Mary Louise in 1944.

Funeral services were held January 11, 1990, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home at Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Joe N. DeBARTHE. Music was provided by Mrs. Robert THOMAS, Alan SMITH, Ron SMITH and Di SMITH.

Casketbearers were Sam MERRILL, Marion STARK, Willis ALLEN, Kurt CAMPBELL, Larry CAMPBELL and Chester MUNYON. Burial was in the Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton, Iowa.
