Ringgold Record, 1891

DEATH of THOMAS JOHNSON.

After a prolonged illness, which followed a paralytic strock suffered several years ago, Thomas JOHNSON passed away at his him in this city Sunday evening, February 4. For many years Mr. JOHNSON had been an invalid and for the past several months was almost helpless. Despite his condition he maintained his cheerful disposition. The home has been the object of sympathetic interest and the people of the community mourn with the bereaved wife who was ever constant in attention during the long period of illness. It will be remembered that about a year ago, Mr. and Mrs. JOHNSON's younger son, Harvey, died as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident, since which time the various duties to which the son gave attention were either attended to by sympathetic friends or devolved upon the wife.

John Thomas JOHNSON was born in Indiana and when a small boy moved with his parents to Knox county, Illinois. Here he grew to manhood and in the year 1873 was united in marriage with Miss Caloma ARGO. The marriage took place ast Lewiston, Ill., and the home was established in Knox county. A few years later Mr. and Mrs. JOHNSON moved to Lucas county, Iowa, and here their sons, Glen and Harvey, were born. After residing in Lucas county seven years the family moved to Ringgold county and until 1901, when they moved to Mount Ayr, resided on a farm in Athens township.

Mr. JOHNSON was a man of cheerful and happy disposition and made friends wherever he went. He was a carpenter by trade and was known as a conscientious workman.

The funeral was held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Church of Christ, conducted by the pastor, Edgar PRICE, and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

NOTE: Harvey, son of John "Thomas" and Caloma (ARGO) JOHNSON, was born in 1876 and died as a result of an automobile accident on January 16, 1922 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. Caloma B. JOHNSON, wife of John "Thomas", died in 1916 with interment at Maple Row Cemetery, Kellerton, Iowa.
