FRANK W. JOHNSON CALLED IN DEATH.
Was Resident of Ringgold County Fifty-seven Years
Death Follows Paralytic Stroke.
Death claimed another pioneer settler of Ringgold county, and a man whose life in the community for a period of fifty-seven
years was an example of righteousness, when Frank W. JOHNSON passed peacefully away at his home in Mount Ayr Monday evening.
Mr. JOHNSON had been in declining health for several months, having suffered a paralytic stroke about a year ago. For
several weeks he was confined to his home and, although apparently improving, had not fully regained his strength when
Saturday morning of last week he suffered the second stroke. After the second attack it was at once realized that death was
near. Life held by a slender thread until Monday evening when a few minutes before 10 o'clock the spirit took its flight.
Frank W. JOHNSON was one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of Ringgold county. He was born October 1,
1853, near Mt. Vernon, Knox county, Ohio, the son of Henry and Nancy JOHNSON, and died at his home in Mount Ayr, Iowa,
August 27, 1928, aged 74 years, eight months and 27 days. In the fall of 1871, when he was 18 years of age, he came to
Ringgold county, where he engaged in farming. On November 15, 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Emma FRY of
Jeffersonville, Ind., and the house was established on a farm [illegible] Mount Ayr, where he resided until about 20 years
ago, when he moved to Mount Ayr. Mr. JOHNSON is survived by his wife and one sister, Mrs. Fred WILKINSON of Mount Ayr.
Early in life Mr. JOHNSON gave his heart to Christ and became a member of the Mount Ayr Methodist Episcopal church. His
life was adorned by the christian graces and his faith never wavered. In dealing with his fellowmen he applied the golden
rule. He was ever kind and generous and considerate of the rights of others. He was one of the most companionable of men;
always cheerful and happy, and his presence radiated gladness. Mr. JOHNSON was a true christian gentleman whose righteous
life was a blessing to his generation.
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Episcopal church this (Thursday)
afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, and will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. Jay KIRKENDALL [with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery,
