OBITUARY - ESTHER MARTHA BEYMER JOHNSON

Esther Martha BEYMER JOHNSON, the fourth of nine children born to Alonzo and Estella SHAFER BEYMER, was born November 5, 1903, on a farm south of Diagonal, Iowa, and entered into rest September 19, 1988, at the Ringgold County Hospital.

Esther started school in Diagonal, attended school in Tingley for a while, and at the age of 10 years moved with her family to Mount Ayr where she entered the sixth grade. She was graduated from the Mount Ayr High School with the class of 1921. She received a teachers certificate on her eighteenth birthday. She taught school in the county schools of Ringgold County from 1922 until 1926. Esther attended Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa.

On December 17, 1926, she was united in marriage at Mount Ayr, Iowa, to William Orlo JOHNSON, a young farmer. They lived on farms in the county until 1944 when they moved to Mount Ayr.

Survivors include: a son, William Orlo, Jr. and wife, Lois, and their children, Howard, Janet, Jean, Kathy, Randy and Roger; son, Kenneth Max and wife, Lois, and their children, Terri and Kevin; son, Carroll E. and wife, Beverly, and their children, Debbie, Pat, Lesa, Mark and John; son, Theron Merle and wife, Marilyn, and their children, Melanie and Travis; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Beth EASON of Benton and Fern BADGER and husband, Jim, of Lawrence, Kansas; and one sister-in-law, Marge BEYMER of Richmond, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1948; grandson, Ricky; three brothers, Luther, Paul and Mark.

Esther was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Mount Ayr. She ws honored by the United Methodist Women with a special mission recognition pin.

She will be missed by her church and by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held September 21, 1988, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home at Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Samuel FRY. Music was provided by Mrs. Merrill PERRY and Mrs. Steve ROE.

Casketbearers were Jim EASON, Clair EASON, R. A. BEYMER, Perry JOHNSON, Cecil JOHNSON and Gene McPHERSON. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
