The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1926

DEATH of LEVI JARVIS.

After an illness of many months duration, Levi JARVIS passed away at at the home of his niece, Mrs. J. L. STEPHENS, near Delphos, Monday evening, September 27. He was 73 years old and had been in feeble health for several years, his critical illness dating from last May when he came from Joplin, Mo., to make his home with Mr. and Mrs. STEPHENS. Except for about two weeks he has been bedfast since May.

Mr. JARVIS was among the pioneers of Ringgold county and was held in high regard by all who knew him. He was one of the county's pioneer school teachers and was an ordained minister in the Methodist church, being engaged in evangelistic work for a number of years. He moved from Ringgold county to North Dakota about thirty years ago and later moved to Joplin, Mo., where he lived for a number of years where his wife [Evan Mary V. (LAYTON)], who was a fine singer and who was associated with him in evangelistic work, was called by death. Mr. JARVIS took a great interest in the inter-church world movement and left a large part of his estate to that work.

Funeral services were held last Wednesday at the Methodist church in Diagonal, being conducted by Rev. MOSS, of Carthage, Mo., and the burial was in the Diagonal cemetery.
