The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1927

GOOD CITIZEN IS CALLED BY DEATH

Squire H. James, a Resident of Ringgold County 53 Years,
Died Friday, July 1.

Death claimed another aged and respected citizen of Ringgold county Friday, July 1, when Squire H. JAMES passed away at his home in Middle Fork township after an illness of five months duration.

Squire Harrison JAMES was born in Warren county, Indiana, July 15, 1853, and departed this life July 1, 1927, aged 73 years, 11 months and 16 days.

He came to Ringgold county about 53 years ago and settled on the place in Middle Fork township which has been his home ever since with the exception of about one and one-half years spent in Kansas.

He was united in marriage to Mary E. HOWE October 21, 1877, to which union ten children were born, all of whom with his wife survive him, except Lillian, the oldest, who died when fourteen months old. The children were all with and visited him. Guy and Ray found it necessary to return to their homes about eleven days before his death.

The children are Carl C. of Lashburn, Saskatchewan, Canada; Mrs. Ida BROWN of Lafayette, Colo.; Edmund H. of Middle Fork township; Guy E. of Williamsport, Ind.; Ray of Chugwater, Wyo.; Ora W. at home; Mrs. Faye WAUGH of near Grant City, Mo., and Clarence and Merle of Middle Fork. He has 25 grandchildren living and two dead.

He united with the Christian Adventist church 33 years ago and remained faithful to same all his life.

From the begining of his last illness which was of about five months' duration, he seemed to have no hope of recovery, and said he was ready and willing to go whenever his Lord called him.

He was a kind husband, a loving father and good neighbor and will be greatly missed not only by his own family but by the community.

His wife and seven children, his only brother, Johnathan, and nephews, Marion and Frank MAUDLIN, were at his bedside when the end came.

Thus another of our old settlers has passed over. A golden wedding anniversary and reunion of family had been planned for October 21 of this year.

Funeral services were held at Hickory Grove church Sunday, July 3, at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. CARTER. His body was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

A large concourse of friends and neighbors were present to show the respect and esteem in which the deceased was held.

CARD OF THANKS.

We wish to express our heart-felt thanks to all friends and neighbors for their help and sympathy, not only in the illness of our loved one, but in our bereavement also. Also for flowers.
MARY E. JAMES AND FAMILY.
J. M. JAMES.

NOTE: Mary E. (HOWE), wife of Squire Harrison JAMES, was born May 17, 1860, and died on July 15, 1951. Of the children of Squire Harrison and Mary E. (HOWE) JAMES: Edmond H. JAMES was born in 1885, and died in 1971; Ora W. JAMES was born on May 9, 1894, and died on October 9, 1968; and Clarence Jess JAMES was born on August 9, 1899, and died on January 9, 1992.
