REVEREND CHARLES HUSTED

October 02, 1931 - November 12, 2007

American Flag.jpg Charles "Chuck" Allen HUSTED, son of John Oliver Frank and Nellie (BARNES) HUSTED, was born October 2, 1931, in Aurora, Illinois. He was a 1950 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. October 17, 1949, during his senior year of high school, he enlisted in the National Guard, he served for three years and was honorably discharged October 16, 1952. He married Nola Bernice ANDERSON, June 15, 1952, in Oskaloosa.

Chuck was first employed at Pella Rollscreen. He worked there for 13 years and later in those years, in the evenings, he furthered his education at the Open Bible College in Des Moines, Iowa. He was ordained in the summer of 1968. Following his education he pastored the Runnells Open Bible Church, Melcher Assembly of God, Russell Center Church, Kellerton Assembly of God and the Kellogg Hickory Grove Church.

Chuck loved people and children in particular; his ministry to them included puppets and dressing up as "Pockets" the clown at various events.

He and Nola were living in Pella at the time of her death. Following Nola's death, he married Dorothy Hale GOWENS, Oct. 5, 2003; they resided in Oskaloosa.

In September 2005, ill health required Charles move to the Long Term Care Unit in Pella. He was a member of the Assembly of God churches. As a young man he enjoyed hunting; later he enjoyed visiting, in person and on the telephone; he also enjoyed his computer with which he made cards and wrote poems and sermons.

Chuck passed away Monday evening at the Pella Long Term Unit at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 10 days.

Charles' family includes his wife, Dorothy of Oskaloosa; three daughters: Lori CLARK of Pella; Brenda (Dan) BREWER of Chariton; and Becky (Jim ) DeJOODE of Pella; a son, Roy (Joyce) HUSTED of Waukee; eight grandchildren: Randy (Kim) CLARK of Leighton; Taunya (Wes) Van MAANEN of Leighton; Tanner HUSTED of Waukee; Suade HUSTED of Waukee; Erica (Justin) SCHIEFFER of Templeton, IA; A. J. & Lee BREWER of Chariton; and Michael DeJOODE of Pella; nine great-grandchildren: Sarah CLARK, Allison CLARK, Mitchell CLARK, Klaeton VanDe KIEFT; Paige VanDe KIEFT; Jaed, Trae and Daiva Van MAANEN; and Keaton LEONARD; and a brother, Floyd HUSTED of Oskaloosa.

Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Nola on March 21, 2002 and his sister, Catherine DUNCAN.

Visitation: Will begin at 10:00 a.m., Thursday morning, November 15, 2007 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel, the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to greet visitors.

Funeral Service: 1:30 p.m., Friday afternoon, November 16, 2007 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dwayne POE of the Oskaloosa Open Bible Church and Rev. Vicki ROLLER, a chaplain with Pella Long Term Care officiating. Interment: Friends Cemetery in New Sharon, Iowa with Military Honors conducted by the Harry L. Anderson Post # 34 of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans Post #21 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2237.

Memorials may be made to Pella Regional Health Center, Long Term Care, Rehab. Services.
