OBITUARY - JAMES HUNT
James HUNT, 69, of 229 South Greene Street in Boone, Iowa passed away at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa on
Tuesday evening, May 27, 2008.
He was born on February 23, 1939 in the Royal Borrough of Kennsington, London, England. He was raised by his mother Peggy
and her husband Kenneth D. VIRDEN.
On December 27, 1960, he married Judith Lee ANDREWS at the Methodist Church in Luther, Iowa.
Jim graduated from Kellerton High School in 1957 and Iowa State University in 1980. He was a veteran of Vietnam serving in
the United State Navy for 22 years before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. After his military career, Jim spent 20 years
with the CNW, WCL and CSVRR railroad before retiring in September of 1998.
He was a life member of the VFW Post #867, a member of the American Legion, the Fleet Reserve Association and the Evening
Lion's Club and Woodlands Presbyterian Church both in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Jim enjoyed golfing, traveling, model
railroading, reading and gardening.
His parents and brother, Dwayne VIRDEN preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Judith of Boone and Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; 2 daughters Cynthia Jo LEACH
and partner Aron MEDEIROS of Scottsdale, Arizona, Christine Lyn HUNT of Scottsdale, Arizona; one son Steven James HUNT and
wife Laura of Bristol, Wisconsin; two sisters Mary Jane McCLANAHAN and husband Harry of Lake Stevens, Washington and Dr.
Jenel VIRDEN of Hull, England; 7 grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday morning, May 31st at 10:00 a.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with Rev. Dr. Richard
Full military honors will be conducted by the Veterans Council of Boone with presentation of the flag
at Linwood Park Cemetery.
Following services, the body will be cremated with interment in Linwood Park Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning
from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.
The family will be present at the Chapel on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. to greet friends.
Memorials may be directed to the USO organization, Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, or to a charity of choice.
