OBITUARY - ELVIS E. "PINK" HUNT

American Flag.jpg REDDING, Iowa -- Elvis E. "Pink" HUNT, 77, Redding, died Tuesday, February 1, 2000, at a hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mr. HUNT, a farmer, was born at Redding on December 28, 1922, and was a lifelong resident of that town.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 617 in Redding.

On October 12, 1947, he married Rose SLAVIK in Diagonal, Iowa. She survives of the home.

Mr. HUNT was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Beverly S.; his parents, George R. and R. O'Rilla; and a sister, Ruth EURITT.

Additional survivors include four sons, Robert A., Grant City, Mo.; Richard L., Denver, Mo.; Larry E., Smithville, Mo.; and George A., Mount Ayr, Iowa; four daughters, Anna Marie CAMPBELL, Frankfort, Ohio; Katherine J. MURRAY, Chillicothe, Ohio; Connie Jo LEECH, Beatrice, Neb.; and Sandra K. HORNE, Chicago; three brothers, Alan, Grant City, Mo.; and Amom and Maurice, both of Mount Ayr, Iowa; three sisters, Estell HALL, Holts Summit, Mo.; Mary Lou McCORMICK, Grant City, Mo; and Marilyn SIMPSON, St. Joseph, Mo.; and 11 grandchildren.

Graveside service and burial was at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Middle Fork Cemetery near Redding, with military rites by members of the American Legion Posts No. 5329, 2176 and 3123. Family visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home, Grant City [MO].

OBITUARY - ELVIS E. "PINK" HUNT

Elvis Ellsworth HUNT was born on December 28, 1922 to George and O'Rilla (EWING) HUNT. He attended the Hunt school.

Elvis served in the United States Coast Guard from November 19, 1943 until December 19, 1945. After serving his country, he returned to Grant City, Missouri. He married Rose SLAVIK of Diagonal, Iowa on October 12, 1947. They made their home south of Redding, Iowa near the original Hunt homestead, where they lived for the remainder of his life which ended on February 1, 2000 at 11:10 a.m. To this union nine children were born.

Elvis especially enjoyed family gatherings, storytelling, playing cards and dominoes, fishing and feeding the catfish in his pond. He started teaching his grandchildren how to play cards and dominoes as soon as they were able to hold them.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Rose, of the home; his children, of whom he was very proud: Anna Marie and husband James CAMPBELL of Frankfort, Ohio, Robert Alan and wife Deidre HUNT of Grant City, Missouri, Richard Lee and wife Peggy HUNT of Denver, Missouri, Katherine Jeanne and husband Robert MURRAY of Chillicothe, Ohio, Connie Jo and husband Greg LEECH of Beatrice, Nebraska, Larry Elvis and wife Colette HUNT of Smithville, Missouri, Sandra Kay and husband Lonnie HORNE of Chicago, Illinois and George Albert HUNT and wife Lynnette KNIGHT of Mount Ayr.

He is also survived by his brothers: Alan and wife Evelyn HUNT of Grant City, Missouri, Amon and wife Lois HUNT of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Maurice and wife Helen HUNT of Mount Ayr; his sisters: Estelle HALL of Holts Summit, Missouri, Mary Lou McCORMICK of Grant City, Missouri and Marilyn and husband Bob SIMPSON of St. Joseph, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

Surviving grandchildren are Angela NEWTON, Holly, Jordan, Brian, Rachael, Allison and Trey HUNT, Matthew MURRAY, Jennifer and Jeremy LEECH and Ashton BANTA.

Preceding him in death were his parents, George and O'Rilla HUNT, his sister Ruth EURITT and infant daughter Beverly Sue.

Graveside services were held Saturday, February 5, 2000 at 10:30 A.M. at the Middle Fork Cemetery with Eydie STEPHENS officiating. Casketbearers were his eight surviving children. Honorary casketbearers were nephews, John HALL and Bill HALL, David, Randy, Kenneth and Keith HUNT, Jimmy and Ed SIMPSON, and good friend Virgil FINDLEY.

Military rites were performed by American Legion Post #617, of which he was a member, and Posts #216 and #106; V.F.W. Posts #3123, #5329 and #2176.

Arrangements were under the direction of Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home of Grant City, Missouri.
