OBITUARY - DANNY DALE HULLINGER
Danny Dale HULLINGER, 67, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 26, 2004, after suffering a heart attack and stroke on
June 23, 2004. He was a Workers' Compensation administrative law judge, employed by the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board
Danny was born September 30, 1936, in Ringgold County, Iowa, to Carl and Ressa HULLINGER. He graduated from
Clarinda High School in 1955. As a teenager, Danny enjoyed spending his free time at the local airports, doing odd jobs in
exchange for flying lessons. His love of flying and of all things plane-related led him to join the Untied States Air Force
shortly after graduation. While in the Air Force, Danny became a skilled aircraft mechanic. A private pilot, Danny's love
of flying never waned.
Danny married Nancy Kay VANDENBERG in 1968. The pair met while driving buses for the Clovis Unified School District. Their
marriage ended in divorce in 1990.
Danny attended law school and was an alumnus of Lincoln Law School's class of 1977.
He practiced family law in Sacramento before relocating to Los Angeles. He joined the State Compensation Insurance Fund as
a defense attorney in 1986.
Danny met Katharine STANDING, a claims adjuster with the State Fund and the two were married
in April 1991. In September 1992, Danny became what he always dreamed of being, a father. His cherished children, Matthew
Ryan and Saffron Lynn (born June 1995), were the lights of his life.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents and beloved brother Harold.
He leaves behind his wife, Katharine; children, Matthew and Saffron; brothers and sisters Carl (wife Bettie) of Belen,
N.M., Donald (wife Virginia) of Glendale, Ariz., Betty GOFF (husband Bob) of Spokane, Wash., Jim (wife Rose Mary) of Mount
Ayr, Iowa, and Jane LAMSCUS (husband Jim) of Milwaukee, Ore.; sister-in-law, Oralyn HULLINGER of Salinas, Calif.; and many,
many good friends, whom he loved dearly and whose lives he touched.
Special thanks is given to the nursing staff of Community Memorial Hospital's coronary care unit, who took great care to
ensure Danny's comfort. Special thanks is also given to all the friends and family who have provided their love and
support, most especially Katharine's parents, George and Janice ROBERTS, Adrea BROUGHTON and Laurie CURTIS-ABBE. The
gratitude of Katharine and her children knows no bounds.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Ventura Missionary Church, 500 High Point Drive, Ventura.
