The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1926

OBITUARY - FRANCIS HUGHES.

Francis HUGHES was born December 31, 1854 [the son of Thomas and Jane HUGHES], and died at his home in Lotts Creek township, Ringgold county, Iowa, May 14, 1926, aged 71 years, five months and 14 days. He was married to Bertha HUBBARD July 23, 1902. This union was blessed with three daughters, Mrs. Esther MANNERS of Mount Ayr, Ethel and Crystal at home; also a baby girl which was taken into the HUGHES home shared in the love which he so generously bestowed upon his family.

Mr. HUGHES lived all of his life in Lotts Creek township. He was a man who loved his home and family, a good husband and father, a good citizen and a true friend. He was always ready to help in advancing the cause of righteousness; a good supporter of the church, especially the Ringgold church. He will be greatly missed both in the home and community.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, one sister and one brother. Those who remain to mourn his departure are his wife and three daughters, one brother, Aaron HUGHES of Mount Ayr, three sisters, Mary and Sarah HUGHES of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Florence McCAMMOND of Pittsburg, Kan., and a host of sorrowing relatives, neighbors and friends.

Funeral services, held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the home, were largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. G. W. GRAMER, pastor of the Ringgold church, assisted by Rev. CAMPBELL of the Apostolic church. The interment was in Oak Dale cemetery.

CARD OF THANKS.

We take this means of expressing to the neighbors and friends our heart-felt thanks for the many acts of kindness and the sympathy so generously bestowed during the illness and on the occasion of the death and funeral of our husband and father, and for the many beautiful floral tributes.
MRS. FRANK HUGHES AND DAUGHTERS.

NOTE: Bertha (HUBBARD), wife of Francis HUGHES, was born in 1878, and died in 1968 with interment at Oakdale Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa. Francis' father, Thomas HUGHES, was born on December 24, 1824, and died on January 2, 1900. His mother, Jane HUGHES, was born April 14, 1829, and died January 28, 1906. Thomas and Jane were interred at Oakdale Cemetery.
