OBITUARY - ALLAN JACKSON "JACK" HUGHES

Allen "Jack" HUGHES, 82, of Kellerton died September 12, 2005, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 17, at the United Methodist Church in Kellerton. Masonic rites will be conducted by Topaz Lodge No. 438 AF&AM in Kellerton. The Rev. Merlin WILKINS will officiate the service. Burial will be in Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton. There is open visitation after 11 a.m. Friday with the family receiving friends 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. Memorials may be directed to Topaz Lodge No. 438 in Kellerton.

Mr. HUGHES, son of Lois Edna (ALLEN) and Russell Santford HUGHES, was born July 7, 1923, in Clio. He graduated from Kellerton High School, Graceland University in Lamoni and attended the University of Iowa. He was a farmer, vocalist and musician. He was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Kellerton. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge, serving in various offices in Topaz Lodge No. 438 in Kellerton including master. He was a member of Yorkrite Masonic bodies with his local chapter in Leon. He was exalted to the office of Grand Council Commander where he was recognized for his distinguished and active service to the fraternity.

Survivors include two sisters, Myrna JOHNSON of Stanton and Myna (husband John) GIBBENS of Madison, Wis.; a brother Russell Arvid (wife Julie) HUGHES of Glenwood; sister-in-law, Dorothy HUGHES of Mount Ayr; nine nieces and nephews and 12 great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Arlen HUGHES.
