Bob was born October 12, 1915 in rural Ringgold county to James M. and Mary HOSTETER HUDSON. The eighth of 11 children, Bob was the last surviving member of the family.

He graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1933 and later became manager of the United Food Market. On April 9, 1939, he and Ruth Marguerite BUSBY of Diagonal were married in the Methodist church at Mount Ayr, where they resided until Bob became office manager of Canfield Lumber Co. in Waterloo in 1954. In 2003 they moved to the Lodge of Ashworth, West Des Moines, where they resided until March of 2011.

Bob was a navy veteran of World War II, serving as secretary to the captain of the U.S.S. Hyde, a troop carrier in the Pacific. He was proud of his World War II service and attended several reunions of his Hyde shipmates.

Bob and Ruth were lifelong Methodists and were lovers of music. They participated in many church and musical activities in Mount Ayr and Waterloo. Bob was a longtime member and officer in the Masonic Lodge and he and Ruth also were longtime members and officers in the Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine.

They were proud of the accomplishments of their daughters, grandsons and great-grandchildren and were grateful to have attended all the college graduations and weddings of their grandsons.

Bob is survived by Ruth, his loving wife and constant companion of 72 years; two daughters, Beverley DUFFY of Des Moines, Iowa and Mary TAYLOR and husband David of Webster Groves, Missouri; four grandsons, Mark DUFFY of Des Moines, Joel DUFFY and wife Krista of Marion, Iowa, Brian BAETZ and wife Jenny of Webster Groves, Missouri and Jonathan BAETZ and wife Karen of Walnut Creek, California; seven great-grandchildren, Brian's children, Zachary and Jacqueline BAETZ, Jonathan's children, Julia, Nicholas and Trevor BAETZ and Joel's daughters, Cailin and Rachel DUFFY; four step-grandsons, Gil TAYLOR of Chicago, Illinois, Randy TAYLOR of Downers Grove, Illinois, Kevin TAYLOR of Alameda, California and Patrick TAYLOR of Lake Quivera, Kansas, and eight step-great-grandchildren.
