AMY HUBBARD DIES - Shannon City

Amy HUBBARD, 97, of Shannon City, passed away Sunday morning, October 29, 1989, at the Afton Care Center.

She was born Dec. 29, 1891, in Beatrice, Neb., the daughter of Charles and ADELINE SMITH. On Jan. 16, 1916, she married Walter Clarke HUBBARD in Grant City, Mo. He preceded her in death in February 1983.

She grew up around Aplington and lived the last 50 years in the Shannon City community. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. HUBBARD is survived by a daughter, Betty Anne HUBBARD of Myrtle Creek, Ore.; two sons, Cyril HUBBARD of Creston and Clarke HUBBARD of Riverton, Wyo.; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna TERRY of Bedford and Ruth FICHTER of Tabor.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Shannon City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edyie STEPHENS officiating. Burial was at the Oakland Cemetery at Shannon City with the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home of Mount Ayr in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Shannon City United Methodist Church.

AMY HUBBARD DIES - Shannon City

Amy French HUBBARD, 97, of Shannon City, Iowa, died October 29, 1989 in the Afton Care Center. She was born December 29, 1891 at Beatrice, Nebraska. While a small baby, she moved with her parents to a farm near Athelstan, Iowa. She taught school for several year.

On January 16, 1916, she married Walter HUBBARD, who preceded her in death on February 14, 1983. She had been a resident of Shannon City area for over fifty years.

Amy was an excellent seamstress, an avid gardener, a good cook and loved trying new recipes. She was a member of the United Methodist Chuch and was active for many years in the United Methodist Women. She loved to sing and could often be heard sining as she went about her daily tasks. In later years, feeding and watching the birds gave her great enjoyment as well as collecting stamps and first day covers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother, and three half-sisters.

Survivors include three children, Clarke HUBBARD (wife Colleen) of Riverton, Wyoming, Cyril HUBBARD (wife Irene) of Creston, Betty Ann HUBBARD of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; four grandchildren, Richard HUBBARD of Sundance, Wyoming, Linda CRAGO of rural Shannon City, Mary MAYO of Caldwell, Idaho, and Dean HUBBARD of St. George, Utah; eleven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Survivors also include two sisters, Anna TERRY of Beford and Ruth FICHTER of Tabor.

Funeral services were held November 1, 1989, at the Shannon City United Methodist Church, Rev. Eydie STEPHENS officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery, Shannon City, Iowa.
