The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1926

OBITUARY - GRANDMA HOSFORD.

Francis Virginia MORRIS was born in Licking county, Ohio, January 3d, 1844, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John REYNOLDS, near Redding, Iowa, August 31, 1926, aged 82 years, seven months and 27 days.

She moved with her parents to Crawford county, Illinois, in 1850 and on February 28, 1869, was united in marriage to Benjamin F. HIGGINS, who departed this life March 9, 1890. To this union eight children were born, six of whom are left to mourn her departure. They are A. A. HIGGINS and Mrs. Luella G. CAMPBELL of Eckley, Colo.; M. A., H. F. and C. W. HIGGINS of Yuma, Colo., and Mrs. John REYNOLDS of Redding, Iowa. Besides the children she leaves thirty-five grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

She moved with her husband to Ringgold county, Iowa, in 1872, settling on a farm near Redding, Iowa, helping to build up the country in the pioneer days.

On January 18, 1894, she was united in marriage to Jonathan HOSFORD, who departed this life December 26, 1905.

She united with the Methodist church in childhood and later transferred her membership to the Baptist church at Delphos, Iowa, where she remained a faithful member until the time of her death. She lived for her creator, her church and family; her door was always open to all who cared to enter and her ambition in life was to do good to others. A mother and grandmother has passed on to her reward, but her kind words and christian life will never be forgotten.

"Oh, mother, thy gentle voice is hushed,
Thy warm, true heart is still,
And on thy pale and peaceful face
Is resting death's cold chill.
Thy hands are clasped upon thy breast,
We have kissed thy loving brow,
And in our aching hearts we know
We have no mother now."

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Baptist church in Delphos and the interment was in Middle Fork cemetery.

NOTE: Jonathan HOSFORD, Francis' second husband, died on December 26, 1904 at the age of 72 year, 2 months and 8 days with interment at Middle Fork Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
