The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1926

DEATH of MRS. MARY LAW HORNE.

After an illness of several months' duration, Mrs. Mary LAW HORNE, widow of the late Dr. William HORNE, passed away Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. E. SHELDON. The end came peacefully and marked the close of a life the beneficent influence of whch has been felt in the Mount Ayr community for a period of fifty-seven years. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the SHELDON home, conducted by Rev. W. L. THORNBURG, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, and the body was laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery.

Mary LAW was born to James and Mary LAW March 14, 1849, near New Lexington, Ohio. She was one year of age when she came with her parents to Monmouth, Ill., residing there until her marriage to William HORNE, M.D., on December 14, 1869.

They immediately came to Mount Ayr where they made their home until his death on January 22, 1925; since that time she has lived with her daughter, Mrs. F. E. SHELDON until her death November 14, 1926.

To this union were born three children, all who survive her. They are Minnie HORNE SHELDON, James Otto HORNE, and Charles Law HORNE, all living in this vicinity. She also leaves one brother, Samuel LAW, of Monmouth, Ill.

NOTE: Dr. William HORNE, husband of Mary (LAW), was born December 30, 1843, and died January 22, 1925 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. James Otto HORNE, son of Dr. and Mary (LAW), was born on August 19, 1873, and died on June 12, 1954 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery. Charles Law HORNE, son of Dr. and Mary (LAW), was born in 1887, and died in 1960 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
