The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1933

OBITUARY - MARGARET JANE HOPKINS.

Margaret Jane JARRED, daughter of George W. and Abigail Ann JARRED, was born July 3, 1860, in Edgar county, Illinois, and died at her home near Watterson March 23, 1933, aged 72 years, eight months and 20 days.

She came with her parents to Iowa when a small child. She was left motherless at the age of nine years. She was raised in a christian home and at an early age was converted and joined the M. E. church and later united with the Hickory Grove Advent Christian church and remained a faithful member until her death. She was united in marriage with M. [Martin] V. HOPKINS April 4, 1888. To this union was born one son, Fred Marton, who passed away December 6, 1920. She also filled a mother's place to one step daughter, Nancy Margaret.

The husband and father, M. V. HOPKINS, fell asleep June 13, 1924. [Martin was born August 13, 1840.]

She leaves to mourn her death two sisters, Mrs. Sarah ENGLE and Mrs. Lucretia BARNETT, both of Wellsville, Kan.; two half sisters, Mrs. Alvira KLING of Holton, Kan., and Katherine WASHBURN of Obar, N.M.; one half brother, Arthur JARRED of Mount Ayr; one step-daughter, Mrs. Nannie HACKER, of Kellerton; three granddaughters and three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

One brother, Joe JARRED, and one sister, Mary McANINCH, preceded her in death.

"Aunt Mag", as she was familiarly called by many, will be sadly missed in the neighborhood. She was always ready to minister to the sick, or help those in need. In her later years she was deprived of the privilege of church attendance, but took great comfort in her Bible, and many of its precious promises she repeated in her last illness. She fell asleep believing in the soon return of her Lord and of a glorious resurrection.

Until the Easter glories light the skies;
Until the dead in Jesus shall arise,
And He shall come, but not in lowly guise,
Good night.
Until made beautiful by love devine,
Thou in the image of thy Lord shall shine,
And he shall bring that golden crown of thine,
Good night.
[written by a friend]

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Hickory Grove church, being conducted by Rev. E. S. MENOHER, pastor of the Mount Ayr Methodist church, and burial was in the Hickory Grove cemetery.
