Ringgold Record, 1893

OBITUARY.

Johnathan HOLLEBAUGH (sic) died at his residence in Washington township, Ringgold county, Iowa, October 5, 1893, aged 77 years, 1 month and 5 days. Mr. HOLLEBAUGH came to his grave in a good old age, and full of days. He was born in Armstrong county, Penn., A[illegible] 29, 1816. He removed with his parents at the age of 12 years, to Mercer county, Penn., and to the town of Mercer. Here he grew to manhood. In 1851 he was married to Miss Sarah J. LAFFERTY, who survives him. From this union sprang the following children: Mrs. Helmina A. WILLIAMS, W. G., C. F., F. L., and Miss Maggie HOLLEBAUGH.

All these children were with the father in his sickness, and all present at the funeral save Charles who had gone to his home in Illinois. In 1857, in the United Presyberian church of Mercer, Mr. HOLLIBAUGH made a profession of his faith in Christ and has since witnessed a good profession. In 1864, he moved with his family to Mahaska county, Iowa, and remained there seven years. In the year 1871, he moved his family to Ringgold county, and was for years associated with the United Presbyterian church of Eugene. He died a respected member of the United Presbyterian church of Mount Ayr. He was stricken with paralysis about three weeks before his death. His end was peaceful. Mr. HOLLEBAUGH was noted as a happy, contented christian, and as old age and its infirmities came on, his faith and hope increased. He loved to recount all the way wherein the Lord had led him and rejoiced in the goodness of God.

The funeral took place from the United Presbyterian church, and in the absence of the pastor, Rev. H. T. JACKSON, was conducted by Rev. David INCHES of Redding. He preached an able discourse from 1st Cor. 15:57. "But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." The remains were laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery. He leaves a wife and five children to hold him in blessed remembrance and mourn his death.

NOTE: Maggie M. HOLLIBAUGH, daughter of Johnathan and Sarah J. (LAFFERTY), was born in 1869, and died in 1939 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa.
