The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1926

OBITUARY - MRS. Wm. A. HOGUE.

Clara Olive VANCE, eldest daughter of William S. and Eliza (HELMICK) VANCE, was born near Foosland, Champaign county, Illinois, May 11, 1871, and departed from this life May 4, 1926, aged 54 years, 11 months and 23 days.

On November 18, 1890, she was united in marriage to William A. HOUGE, who preceded her in death February 16, 1923.

To this union eight children were born: Myrtle, Carl, Harvey, Roy, Russell, Marie, Charles and Hallie, all of whom were able to be with her during her sickness and death.

At the age of fifteen she was converted and united with the United Brethren church at Mt. Hope where she was always a faithful attendant. After coming to Iowa in the spring of 1901 she transferred her membership to the Methodist Episcopal church at Lesanville and later to Kellerton.

Besides the children she leaves to mourn her going two grandsons, four grand- daughters, one sister, Mrs. A. D. NEPTUNE, of Mount Ayr, Iowa; three brothers, W. F. VANCE of Mound City, Mo.; W. E. VANCE, of Easton, Mo.; C. F. VANCE of Blockton, Iowa, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

She was of a happy dispostion, never complaining, always thinking whatever was, was for the best.

"God made a wonderful mother,
A mother who never grew old,
He made her smile of the sunshine,
And He moulded her heart of pure gold.

In her eyes he place bright shining stars,
In her cheeks, fair roses.
God made a wonderful mother
And He gave that dear mother to us."

Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon at two o'clock. Interment in Maple Row cemetery [Kellerton].

NOTE: William A. HOGUE, husband of Clara Olive (VANCE), was born in 1857, and died in 1923 with interment at Maple Row Cemetery.
