OBITUARY - MRS. D. F. HOFFMAN
Mary Serena daughter of James J. and Susan GRIFFITH, was born in Middle
Fork township [Ringgold County, Iowa] on Feburaury 21, 1856 and died February 24, 1847 (sic, should be 1947)
in Colo, age 91 years
and 3 days. She grew to womanhood in Middle fork township and with the exception of the last few years which she spent
with her sons her entire life was spent in and near her birthplace. In 1872 she was united in marriage to David F. HOFFMAN,
to this union were born four sons, J. Eddy of Redding, Lester of Springifeld, Oregon, Silas of Abarr, Colo., and Ivan of
Webster Grove MO., and a daughter Nellie who died in childhood.
In 1922 Mr. and Mrs. HOFFMAN clebrated there 50th wedding anniversary and the next year her husband preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn her passing besides her sons, two sisters Eliza BRYAN of Mt. Ayr, Belle MILLER of Basett, Neb., and a
brother Mack GRIFFITH of Altoona, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren one great-great-grandson and a host of
other relatives. Her life was centered in her home her church and her community and verily her children do rise up and call
Interment was at Middle Fork Cemetery, Middle Fork Township of Ringgold County, Iowa.
