OBITUARY - JAMES W. HOFFMAN

Jim was born July 15, 1920, to W. R. and Elva (WHISLER) HOFFMAN and passed away February 5, 2002, at the Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa.

Services were held February 8, 2002, at the United Methodist Church with the Reverend Andy RUBENKING officiating. Jim graduated from Kellerton high school in 1937 and began working as a butcher for Hy-Vee Food Stores, then known as the Supply Store.

He moved to Corning in 1940 and in 1941 he married Marchetta DEER. Susan Kay was born to that union.

In 1949 he married Mary (COFFMAN) MYER and to this union James William was born. Along with Mary's two sons, Dennis and Gary, they became a family.

He began working in 1953 for the Okey-Vernon First National Bank in the insurance department. He was the bank president when he retired in 1992.

Jim was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy in Guam. He was a member of the Mason Lodge, American Legion for more than 50 years, United Methodist Church and the Corning Rotary Club. He was instrumental in the development of the Industrial Pork and Community Center.

After his retirement from the bank, he and Mary fulfilled their dream of the farm and raising registered Angus cattle. Survivors include his wife, Mary of 53 years; daughter Susan (husband Gary) McFARLAND of Cedar Point, Utah; Dennis D. MYER (wife Shirley) of Corydon, Iowa and Bill (wife Sue) of Kansas City, Missouri; eight grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack HOFFMAN and Gene (wife Marjorie) HOFFMAN, both of Kellerton; and nephew Jim (wife Pat) of Lamoni, Iowa.

Interment was at the Prairie Rose Cemetery just south and west of his home.
