DROWNED in a WELL.
The shocking news that H. N. HINCKLEY (age 42) of Riley township, had met death by being drowned in a well was received in
this city last Friday. Mr. HINCKLEY was blind and it is supposed he missed his footing in some way or became forgetful
that the well was there and stepped into it. He had gone down to another well to draw a pail of water and in passing the
open well which was used as a stock well, he stepped into it and was drowned. It was some time before he was missed about
the house and a search for the missing man was at once inaugurated. Fears that he had fallen into the well were at once
entertained and Mr. ROOKSTOOL, a neighbor, immediately looked in the well and discovered the lifeless body of Mr. HINCKLEY.
The body was removed at once but life was extinct, for he had then been in the well, it is supposed, about three hours.
The funeral took place from the home Friday and was conducted by Rev. T. J. BROWN.
NOTE: Mr. HINCKLEY was born on April 2, 1852, and died at the age of 42 on October 25, 1894. He was interred at Patrick Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
