Fleming N. HICKERSON was born in Gallia county, Ohio, June 18th, 1855. He was married June 1st, 1876, to Miss Julia A.
HAWK. Following the example of many others, he, in 1880 left his native state for the west, settling first in Missouri. About a
year afterward he came to Ringgold county, Iowa, making it his home until the time of his death, living a part of the time in
Mount Ayr engaged in business, and a part of on his farm south of town. He started to walk in the better way when a young
man, uniting with the Baptist church when about 17 years of age, but he afterward allied himself with the Methodist Episcopal
church, of which his wife was a member.
He as a kind and obliging neighbor, a warm friend, an affectionate husband and
parent. During his last illness he repeatedly assured those who were with him that his peace was made with God and that all
was well. While he had been in poor health for some time, his death, which occurred October 11th, 1891, was yet, to many,
sudden and unexpected. His wife and son who survive him have the sympathy of a large number of friends. The funeral took
place from the Methodist church in Mt. Ayr, Tuesday, Oct. 13th, the discourse being preached by his pastor, Rev. W. B. THOMPSON.
