The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1931

OBITUARY - A. H. HICKERSON.

Abraham Hamilton HICKERSON, son of M. D. J. and Julia Ann HICKERSON, was born January 15, 1853, in Gallia county, Ohio, where he grew to manhood, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. W. TERRELL, in west Mount Ayr May 27, 1931, being at the time of his death seventy-eight years, four months and twelve days old.

On the fifth day of February, 1871, he was united in marriage to Calphurnia (sic) HARTSOOK. To this union were born four children, Mrs. D. W. THOMPSON of Hatfield, Mo., John L., deceased in 1926, Mrs. Curtis HALEY of Sumpter, Oregon, and Mrs. H. W. TERRELL of Mount Ayr.

In the year 1875 they came west and settled on a farm in Worth county, Missouri, thence to their home in Harrison county, Missouri, at which place they resided for many years. They moved to Mount Ayr in 1907 where they have since made their home.

Mr. HICKERSON had been failing in health for the past several years. He was a kind and loving husband and father, honest and upright in all his dealing, and was never happier than when in the presence of his family and friends. His cheery voice and loving smile will be a lasting memory.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Mount Ayr May 29th, conducted by Rev. E. S. MENOHER. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Card of Thanks.

We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to those who in any way assisted during the sickness and on the occasion of the death of our dear husband and father, also for the beautiful floral offering.
--Mrs. A. H. HICKERSON and family.

NOTE: Calphurna (HARTSOOK), wife of Abraham Hamilton HICKERSON, was born in 1851, and died in 1940 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa.
