The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1923

OBITUARY - WILLIAM E. HIATT.

William E[llsworth] HIATT was born November 11th, 1866, in Mt. Pleasant, Henry county, Iowa. He came with his parents to Redding, Ringgold county, Iowa, in 1879 and has resided here until his death. He was married to Miss Annette D. BOWEN on the sixth day of April, 1892, and to this union were born nine children - five boys and four girls, all of whom are living - Mrs. Charles GEIGER, of California; John HIATT, of Kansas City, Mo.; Miss Geneva HIATT, of Des Moines, Iowa; Ellsworth HIATT, of Dinuba, Calif.; Frederick HIATT, of Dinuba, alif. (sic); Marion HIATT, of Des Moines and Howard Rothmer and Zola at home. Three brothers and three sisters survive him, one brother and two sisters preceding him in death. One sister, Mrs. Albert NEBUS, and one brother E. Maulding, both of Kansas City, Kna., were present. After a long illness and paitent suffering, Mr. HIATT passed away at his home in Redding, Iowa, on the 20th day of April, 1923, age fifty-seven years, five months and nine days. Mr. HIATT was a good citizen and a good neithber, a loving father and devoted husband. He never made any public profession of faith but left with his family evidence of his acceptance of Christ.

The funeral sermon was held in the M. E. church of Redding by the pastor, Rev. Wiley F. SELBY. Interment was made in the Redding cemetery.

The high esteem in which the deceased was held in the community was evidenced by the very large procession and attendance of the friends at the funeral.
