OBITUARY.

Wm. Haviland gravestone.jpg DIED--Wm. A. HAVILAND, in Washington township Ringgold county, Iowa, Aug. 27, 1885, aged 63 years and eight months. He ate a hearty supper the evening before, and seemed in perfect health. In the night his family was aroused by a noise from his room. On going to him they found him dying. He passed away like one going to sleep. He was a Canadian by birth [1821], and came to Ringgold county 31 years ago. He leaves a wife and three children. His was a blameless life, and he passed away mourned by a large circle of warm friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. P. J. VOLLMAR, at the residence, and this body laid to rest by the Masonic fraternity, of which he was a devoted member [at Marshalltown Cemetery near Benton, Ringgold County, Iowa].

 NOTE: Mary Jane (SKIDMORE), wife of William A. HAVILAND was born May 24, 1824 in Montgomery County, Indiana, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (HAGEMAN) SKIDMORE. She died June 12, 1899, Washington Township of Ringgold County, Iowa, at the age of 75. It is believed that she was interred at Marshalltown Cemetery near Benton. Mary Jane (SKIDMORE) and William A. HAVILAND married in Porter County, Indiana, on August 8, 1844, and were the parents of six children: William H., Mary E., J. A., Maggie M., Alice J., and Louella H. Alice J. HAVILAND in infancy. Maggie M. HAVILAND died in December of 1869. Louella H. HAVILAND died on March 2, 1868. Alice, Maggie M.,and Louella were interred at Marshalltown Cemetery near Benton, Iowa.
