OBITUARY - LAWRENCE L. HASKINS

Lawrence L. HASKINS, 59, owner and operator of the Universal Radiator and Repair Shop, died Monday afternoon at his home, 109 Hillside, following an extended illness.

He was born Jan. 21, 1909, in Salt Fork, [the son of Charles Wesley HASKINS and Clara Belle (MERRYMAN) HASKINS], and came to Ponca City in 1929 to work for the old Marland Oil Company. He established his own business in 1945.

Mr. HASKINS had been instrumental in organization of flying clubs here and was active in private flying until the time of his death. At one time he built and flew his own plane.

On Jan. 12, 1932, he married Ila Lee DICKSON at Caldwell, Kan.

He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Surviving him are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Charles G. [Karyn] SMITH, 611 East Broadway, and Mrs. Ben H. (WYNETH) SWETT, Alamagordo, N.M.; four brothers, Arthur, 344 South Peachtree; Nelson, Arkansas City; Howard of Hunter, and Roy, Redlands, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Edith DIXON, 1101 South Seventh; Mrs. Ethel KIRKPATRICK, 411 East Ponca; Mrs. Faye ALLEN, Arkansas City; and Mrs. Hazel MARSHALL, Barnard, Kan.; and two grandsons, Scott and Bruce Swett, Alamagordo.

Funeral services wil be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the First Christian Church with the Rev. Bill MASTERS, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery [Ponca City] under the direction of E. M. Trout and Sons Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established in Mr. HASKINS' name at the First Christian Church.

The casket will not be opened at the service.
