OBITUARY - GLADYS M. (AUSTIN) HARMON

Gladys M. HARMON was born near Grant City, Missouri on January 11, 1910 to William M. and Lucy (MAUDLIN) AUSTIN. She passed away on September 25, 2008 in Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa. She married Frankie D. BARNETT on March 3, 1928. To this union were born two sons, Rothmer D. BARNETT and Maxon L. BARNETT. Frank passed away September 24, 1966. Her eldest son, Rothmer, passed away August 8, 2005.

On September 2, 1968 Gladys was united in marriage with Roy D. HARMON. They lived on his farm near Creston until 1975 when they moved into Creston. After Roy’s death in October 1979 Gladys moved back to Mount Ayr to be near her mother who was living in Clearview Nursing Home.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Raymond and his wife, Beulah, and Glen and his wife, Maggie; granddaughter Fern EPPERSON and her two children, Richard and DeAnn; grandson Edward Dale BARNETT; granddaughter Theresa POLACEK; and Milo HARMON and Dale HARMON.

Left to mourn her passing are her son Max BARNETT and his wife, Ruth, and their children Gary, Jon, and Carla; Rothmer’s wife, Betty, and their children Steve, Sandy, Kevin, Sheryl, Darrell, Terrell, and Kim. She is also survived by Roy’s son, Gordon, and Roy’s daughter, Margery and a sister-in-law, Maxine NORRIS. She also leaves 31 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren.

Gladys was a member of the Mount Ayr Assembly of God Church. She spent 20 years as a camp cook at Bible Camps in Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Nebraska. For 5 years she was head cook at North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She also did Kids Krusade work in several states and worked in several Mt. Ayr restaurants.

Services were held at the Assembly of God Church in Mount Ayr on Saturday, September 27, 2008 with Rev. Orval BLACK officiating. Music was provided by Doug GREEN. Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Casket bearers were Kevin BARNETT, Jon BARNETT, Terrell BARNETT, Darrel BARNETT, Dewey QUALLS and Mike WENZEL.

Gladys was laid at rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
