Mount Ayr Record-News, 1922

OBITUARY - MRS. MARY J. HARDEN.

The subject of this sketch was born at Fall City, Pa., December 19, 1848, and died at Mount Ayr, Iowa, December 1922. She made her home at the place of her birth until shortly after her marriage with Thos. J. HARDEN, which occurred on May 24, 1871. Some two or three years after the wedding the young people emigrated to Illinois, but remained there only a short time. Soon thy (sic) moved on to Iowa, where they made their home until the day of her death. In 1907 they moved to Mount Ayr.

To this union were born five children, all of whom survive her with the exception of one. The children are, Frank A. HARDEN, of Torrington, Wyo.; C. W. HARDEN of Ringgold county, Iowa; Harry K. HARDEN, of Ringgold county, Iowa; Mrs. Geo. HACKER, of Torrington, Wyo.; and Mary Edith HARDEN, who departed this life in October, 1918.

At the age of sixteen, Mrs. HARDEN became a member of the Baptist church and ever after her life was one of faith. In her trials she found comfort and solace in her relation to her Lord and be precept and example taught her faith to her children. She was a faithful wife, an earnest christian, a devoted mother and a good neighbor.

Her remains were laid to rest in the Rose Hill cemetery at Mount Ayr, after a short funeral service conducted in the home by Rev. R. W. SETTLE, pastor of the Baptist church.
