Ringgold Record, 1892

NOTICE of DEATH.

Civil War Flags.jpg Died, July 2, 1892, at his home in Kellerton Geo. W. HAMPTON, aged 62 years and twenty-one days. Mr. HAMPTON was born in Trumbull county Ohio, June 11th, 1830. He was married June 10, 1849, to Miss Katherine THOMAS. He enlisted in the Union army December 7th, 1861 and served his country [with Company H of the 18th Ohio Infantry as a Corporal] faithfully until discharged at Lookout Mountain Tennessee, December 7th, 1864. During the long period of service and sacrifice for his country, he never faltered but always played the man. He thus became endeared to his comrades. In private life he has been known as a good citizen, good neighbor and kind father and husband. He was a member of the Kellerton Post No. 435 G.A.R. The following resolutions are presented:

In token of our respect for the memory of our late friend G. W. HAMPTON we present the following resolutions:

Resolved, That in the death of Comrade G. W. HAMPTON the Kellerton Post has lost a valued member. We miss the warm grasp of his hand, his cheerful pleasant smiles. We have lost a good member and the community a good citizen.

Resolved, That we tender our sincere condolence to his estimable family in this hour of deep sorrow.

Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be furnished to the family of G. W. HAMPTON and to the press for publication.

NOTE: George W. HAMPTON was interred at Maple Row Cemetery, Kellerton, Ringgold County, Iowa.
