OBITUARY - FRANK HAMMONDS

American Flag.jpg Frank HAMMONDS, 78, of Afton, died February 8, 2007, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

Memorial services were 10 a.m. Monday, February 12, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., Afton. The Rev. Dwayne HENRICHS officiated the service. Burial of ashes will be in Benton Memorial Cemetery at Benton, Ill., at a later date. Online condolences may be left under obituaries at: www.powersfh.com

Frank Henry HAMMONDS, son of Mattie Stella (WORNOCK) and Thomas Wesley HAMMONDS, was born September 12, 1928, at Benton, Ill. Frank finished school in the military after he joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II from 1942 to 1944.

After the military, he settled in Cedar Lake, Ind., where he worked in the steel mills. In 1949, Frank married Betty Gene PARROTT in Robinson, Ill. In 1990, Frank moved to Iowa and lived in Tingley and Afton. While in Iowa, he operated a business that helped people get their benefits from Social Security, Veterans Administration and Internal Revenue Service.

Survivors include two sons, Ed (wife Tammy) HAMMONDS of Shelby, Ind., and Terre (wife Gwen) HAMMONDS of Cedar Lake, Ind.; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many family members and friends.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, three sisters and one great-great grandson.
