Ringgold Record, 1892

OBITUARY.

Civil War Flags.jpg DIED--at his residence in east Mt. Ayr on Tuesday, February 16, 1892, Mr. Jasper N. HAGANS, in the 57th year of his age. Mr. HAGANS was born in McDonough county, Illinois, Dec. 11th 1835, and came with his parents to Ringgold county in 1854.

He was married to Sarah J. SOLES in 1857. Five children, one son and four daughters, came to gladden their home, two daughters having preceded him to the spirit world. The son, James, is living in Colorado and could not be present at the funeral. Mr. HAGANS enlisted in the 4th Iowa Inft. July 4th 1861 and served the old flag faithfully for over four years. His last illness la grippe, followed by pneumonia was brief, he having taken sick only the Thursday preceeding his death. During it all, even the severest pain, he was uncomplaining. He was conscious to the last and expressed no fear of death saying the future account was settled as far as he was concerned, and that the last three days all had been right. He seemed to realize from the first that his sickness was fatal. The funeral services were conducted by Elder M. A. JACKSON, from the residence on Friday morning Feb. 19th at 9 o'clock and the body laid to rest in the Stringtown cemetery [Oakdale Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa] by the side of the children gone before. Mr. HAGANS was a man well liked by all, his death came with startling suddenness and the community mourns as for a personal friend. Ellis C. MILLER Post No. 96 G.A. R. furnished an escort of honor to their deceased comrade.

CARD OF THANKS.

We take this method of returning our sincere thanks to the many friends who so kindly aided us in our great sorrow in the death of husband and father.
MRS. S. J. HAGANS & FAMILY.

NOTE: Sarah J. (SOLES) HAGANS, the widow of Jasper N., was born in Febuary of 1840, and died July 7, 1920 with interment at Oakdale Cemetery beside her husband.
