OBITUARY ~ JUNIOR WALTER GRADY

1932 ~ 2011

Junior passed away suddenly at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA after suffering a heart attack at his home on Sunday, October 16, 2011. He was 78 years old.

Junior was born on a farm near Butte, Nebraska. He was the youngest of four children. His family moved to Beaconsfield, Iowa around 1945 and he graduated from Beaconsfield High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Elaine TAGGART in 1952 and two sons were born to this union.

In the course of his life he was a boxer, a truck driver, a painter, a business owner and a Dad. He enjoyed camping, fishing and discussing politics. His priorities were straight and his compass was true. He was a very humble and gentle man.

Elaine is the love of his life and they raised two sons together. He will be remembered for his laughter, his love, his strength and teaching his grand kids how to fish. He was devoted to his family and their many pets and was a true friend. We loved him dearly and miss him deeply.

Junior is survived by his wife Elaine GRADY of Des Moines, IA; his sister June MESSER, Naperville, Illinois, his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Anita GRADY of Cave Creek, Arizona; his son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Michelle GRADY of Omaha, Nebraska and his grandchildren Austin, Allison and Megan GRADY as well as many loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Norma GRADY, his sister, Fama MOORE, his brother Dean GRADY.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50322. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2011 with burial to follow at Brethren Cemetery in Dallas Center, Iowa.
