OBITUARY ~ SADIE CLARA (BOWLBY) GOODELL

Sadie Clara BOWLBY, daughter of Robert Miller and Ella Elizabeth BOWLBY, was born in Rice township, Mount Ayr, Iowa, Jan. 16, 1893, and passed away on Feb. 23, 1980, at the age of 87 years, one month and seven days.

Sadie became a confirmed member of the Methodist church at the age of 11 years and has always been an active, willing helper.

While in high school she set type for the Kellerton Globe, a newspaper. She graduated in 1912.

On Sept. 23, 1914, she was married to A. J. GOODELL, and moved to his family's farm. She remained on the farm, which had been in the family for 90 years, until a few years ago after A. J.'s death on Oct. 30, 1964, when she sold it and moved back to Kellerton.

Sadie and A. J. were never blessed with children, but she helped care for many and taught Sunday school to a good many in Kellerton.

She was a Past Matron of the Eastern Star and served as its secretary for many years.

She leaves to mourn her departure - two sisters, Eva GIFFORD and Alda REAM and one brother, Carr BOWLBY; a niece, Darlene McLAUGHLIN, two nephews, Charles FINK and Chris BOWLBY, all of Fresno, Calif. and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 2 o'clock from the Kellerton United Methodist Church with Rev. Walter ZARR officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Louise MEADOWS, organist, and Mr. and Mrs. Francis McDOWELL. Casketbearers were Francis VIRDEN, Ernest MERCER, Doug VIRDEN, Ron OVERSTREET, Cecil SICKELS and Loren RUSH. Burial was in the Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton.
